چکیده

A widely used method for determining the similarity of two labeled trees is to compute a maximum agreement subtree of the two trees. Previous work on this similarity measure is only concerned with the comparison of labeled trees of two special kinds, namely, uniformly labeled trees (i.e., trees with all their nodes labeled by the same symbol) and evolutionary trees (i.e., leaf-labeled trees with distinct symbols for distinct leaves). This paper presents an algorithm for comparing trees that are labeled in an arbitrary manner. In addition to this generality, this algorithm is faster than the previous algorithms. Another contribution of this paper is on maximum weight bipartite matchings. We show how to speed up the best known matching algorithms when the input graphs are node-unbalanced or weight-unbalanced. Based on these enhancements, we obtain an efficient algorithm for a new matching problem called the hierarchical bipartite matching problem, which is at the core of our maximum agreement subtree algorithm.

Algebraic Algorithms for Matching

Given a set of nodes and edges between them, what’s the maximum of number of disjoint edges? This problem is known as the graph matching problem, and its study has had an enormous impact on the develpoment of algorithms, combinatorics, optimization theory, and even complexity theory. Mathematicians have been interested in the matching problem since the 19th century, leading to celebrated theore...

Maximum Matchings via Glauber Dynamics

In this paper we study the classic problem of computing a maximum cardinality matching in general graphs G = (V,E). This problem has been studied extensively more than four decades. The best known algorithm for this problem till date runs in O(m √ n) time due to Micali and Vazirani [24]. Even for general bipartite graphs this is the best known running time (the algorithm of Karp and Hopcroft [1...

Lectures 4 and 5 – Matchings

A matching in a graph is a set of edges, no two of which share an endpoint. We describe Edmond’s algorithm for finding matchings of maximum cardinality in a graph. For bipartite graphs with edge weights, we also show how to find matchings of maximum weight. It is recommended that the reader draws pictures of the various constructs that we use (such as alternating trees). I was too lazy to incor...

Cavity Matchings, Label Compressions, and Unrooted Evolutionary Trees

We present an algorithm for computing a maximum agreement subtree of two unrooted evolutionary trees. It takes O(n logn) time for trees with unbounded degrees, matching the best known time complexity for the rooted case. Our algorithm allows the input trees to be mixed trees, i.e., trees that may contain directed and undirected edges at the same time. Our algorithm adopts a recursive strategy e...

Faster Maximium Priority Matchings in Bipartite Graphs

A maximum priority matching is a matching in an undirected graph that maximizes a priority score defined with respect to given vertex priorities. An earlier paper showed how to find maximum priority matchings in unweighted graphs. This paper describes an algorithm for bipartite graphs that is faster when the number of distinct priority classes is limited. For graphs with k distinct priority cla...
